Meet the Speaker
Dr Isabel Baker - Consultant for Infection

Dr Baker went to medical school in Berlin in Germany, before moving
to the UK in 1999. After completing her general internal medicine
posts, she trained in Medical Microbiology and Virology in the Severn
Deanery in Bristol.
She has worked as a microbiology consultant at Weston General
Hospital and Great Western Hospitals in Swindon, before finally
moving back to Bristol, currently holding a post as Consultant for
Infection at North Bristol NHS Trust.
She provides a clinically orientated laboratory service, with frequent liaison
with clinicians in secondary as well as primary care to support decision making
in diagnostic as well as therapeutic aspects of management of patients with
infections. She has been the Infection Control Doctor in Weston and Swindon
for many years, as well as the Clinical Lead for Antibiotic Stewardship, having
also held a position as Clinical Director while in Weston.
She has a particular interest in system wide working and facilitation of close
collaboration between secondary and primary care for the benefit of patient
care, being actively involved in regional STP led work-streams to improve
patient pathways.
Education has been a part of her practice for many years, being involved in
under- and post-graduate teaching, including sessions for GPs.
