Meet the Speaker
Dr Simon Clay

Dr Simon Clay retired from his GP practice in North Birmingham
in 2020. He has worked in Dermatology clinics since 1992 both
as Hospital Practitioner at Birmingham Skin Centre & as a
Community Dermatologist.
He also gives regular lectures in Dermatology to various professional groups,
including qualified & training GP’s, ANP’s & occasionally to groups from the
Pharma industry.
He has previously been appointed an honorary lecturer at Aston University’s
Department of Pharmacy & has also taught on the Diploma in Practical
Dermatology course run by Cardiff University.
He has a particular interest in teaching the diagnosis and management of skin
problems seen in Primary Care, aiming to improving colleagues’ knowledge &
confidence to enable better management of common Dermatology.

Your Learning Agenda

This Dermatology teaching will be Case-based & require active audience
participation. A short history will be presented, after which you will be invited to
make a note of your main differential diagnoses. Then you will be asked to
consider what history questions you would want to explore to drill down your list
of differential diagnoses. Finally photos of the various differentials will be
presented, with comments on accurate diagnosis & management.

Conditions discussed will include:

a.) Common causes of Alopecia & their management.
b. Causes of Annular rashes & their management.
c.) Rashes affecting the legs.
d.) Rashes affecting the neck.

Conditions discussed will include (but not be limited to) :

Psoriasis, Lichen Simplex, Pityriasis Rosea, Lipodermatosclerosis, Alopecia Areata,
Telogen Effluvium, Discoid Lupus, Allergic Contact Dermatitis, Granuloma Annulare,
Lyme Disease. Tinea Capitis and Erythema Nodosum.
