I qualified in Nottingham 1988, after completing my GP training from the Derby VTS in 1993.
Following this, I worked as a GP in Australia, to save enough money to become a student again at Trinity College Dublin, to study a Masters Degree in Sports Medicine.
There then followed a short time as a cruise ship doctor for P+O, before becoming a Staff Grade in A+E and finally settling in General Practice at the end of 1996.
The first sports medicine clinic on the Wirral was set up by me in 1997.
I became an Associate Specialist in Orthopaedics, firstly seeing patients in hospital, but then setting up a community clinic for direct GP referrals. I have done that ever since, latterly being called a GPwSI.
I was clinical lead for Preston and Chorley MSK Service 2015-2018. This involved seeing patients referred by GPs, mentoring/teaching the extended scope physiotherapists and seeing complex cases with them and management of the service.
Additionally, I am the Wirral CCG MSK Lead and still work as a GP partner 2 days a week. I was the Chief Medical Officer for the Cycling World Championships in 2000-9.
