Sarah Alicea RD is a clinical academic and dietitian specialising in diabetes care. At Barts Health NHS Trust she is Clinical Lead for Diabetes and Disordered Eating, and a Doctoral Researcher at the University of Warwick, developing a screening tool to improve identification of disordered eating in people with Type 1 diabetes.
She has contributed to diabetes care nationally through guideline development and professional education, including as a member of the NICE Diabetes Quality Standards committee and co-lead author of the 2021 Best Practice in the Delivery of Diabetes Care in the Primary Care Network guidance. She is a former Chair of the British Dietetic Association (BDA) Diabetes Specialist Group and its current Research Lead, and sits on the Diabetes UK Professional Conference Organising Committee.
Her work centres on translating diabetes evidence into meaningful conversations with people with lived experience, and on supporting healthcare professionals to do the same.
In her spare time, you'll find Sarah swimming outdoors with her ginger water-dog, throwing pottery for anyone in need of a properly proportioned coffee cup, or creating a wildlife-friendly kitchen garden. She's always happy to swap growing tips.
