Learning Objectives

Following the presentation last year which I co-delivered with Nora Young, a  person with lived experience many times over, which just touched the surface of the topic of neurodiversity, there were requests to have another session and go much deeper into our understanding of ADHD and how our Practices need to respond.

With ever more parents presenting to General Practice asking for a referral for their children and / or themselves, and NHS neurodiversity pathways for diagnosis and management with long waiting lists, is there anything we can do in the meantime?

To answer this question and others, Nora and I will be co-delivering again.

Together, we will cover the following Learning Outcomes:

  • What is ADHD? And what is it not? - dispelling myths
  • ADHD in detail: the three types, the role of dopamine, emotional regulation, RSD (Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria)
  • Neurodiverse families and the issues they face
  • The ADHD pathway including reviewing the Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale Symptom Checklist
  • How General Practice can help support patients whilst waiting for the diagnosis to be made
  • How General Practice can support children and parents after the diagnosis has been made
  • Resources to support adults, children, parents and Health Professionals
