Vertigo is defined as the false sensation of movement of the environment around an individual and is a common presentation to primary care. A targeted history and examination is essential in any such encounter, to identify the underlying cause. These range from the benign and easily treated, such as BPPV, to those associated with significant long-term morbidity and mortality, particularly if the diagnosis is delayed, such as stroke. Dr Kevin Fernando Kevin is a portfolio GP (NHS & private) near Edinburgh. He is also Content Advisor for WebMD Medscape Global & UK and Honorary Clinical Reader at the University of Dundee. He is cofounder of CVRMUK which aims to empower HCPs to take a person-centred approach to managing CVRM conditions and drive a new model of specialty training and care delivery in the CVRM space.
Kevin is a regular keynote speaker at small and large-scale education events throughout the UK & Ireland and abroad on a range of topics.
Kevin is an accomplished medical writer, and his articles distil key guidelines and consensus for primary care as well as summarise congress highlights and breaking research and its applicability to primary care.
Kevin is renowned for creating concise clinical aide memoirs, MedScape - Primary Care Hacks to make life easier for HCPs and ultimately to improve the lives of our patients.
Kevin graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2000 and holds both MRCGP and MRCP(UK) qualifications and has completed a Master’s degree in diabetes which he passed with distinction. Kevin is also SCOPE certified in obesity management.
Kevin has been elected to Fellowship of the Royal College of General Practitioners, the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and also the Academy of Medical Educators for his work in diabetes and medical education.

Symposium Speaker Dr Steve Longworth qualified in 1981 and was a full time GP in Leicester for 30 years, then a GP in Australia for seven years. He returned to the UK in 2021 and currently works as a GP locum. He was a GP Trainer, Appraiser, Undergraduate Tutor, and has been a Visiting Professor in the Department of Clinical Skills at St George’s University Medical School in The Caribbean.
He worked in the Shoulder and Spine Clinics of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Leicester General Hospital as a Specialist Doctor. He was the first GPwSI in Musculoskeletal Medicine in Leicester.
He has a Masters degree in Sport and Exercise Medicine and diplomas in Musculoskeletal Medicine and Primary Care Rheumatology.
He is a Past President of The Primary Care Rheumatology Society and was a Tutor and Examiner for The Diploma in Primary Care Rheumatology at the University of Bath.
He is co-author of the bestselling book “Injection Techniques in Musculoskeletal Medicine: A Practical Manual for Clinicians in Primary and Secondary Care” which has also been translated into French, Greek and Chinese. The 5th edition was published in 2018.
He wrote the chapter on Chronic Back and Neck Pain for the RCGP’s textbook on Musculoskeletal Disorders in Primary Care (Curriculum Statement 15.9). He co-authored the chapter on clinical assessment in “The ABC of Spinal Disorders” from BMJ Books. He has written articles about musculoskeletal topics for Update, Prescriber, GP and others.
He has been a guest expert on Radio 4 medical programmes ˜Case Notes” and “Check Up” on the topics of back and shoulder pain.
