Learning Objectives

Bite and sting injuries are a common presentation in primary care, yet identifying the cause and determining the appropriate management can be challenging. This session will provide practical guidance to help clinicians recognise common bite and sting injuries, manage patients confidently, and offer advice to reduce the risk of future incidents.

  • Identify the organisms that commonly cause bite and sting injuries in humans.
  • Understand the assessment and management of bite and sting injuries.
  • Advise patients on strategies to prevent bites and stings.

Dr Alex Kew
Infectious Diseases and Microbiology Consultant

Dr Alex Kew is an Infectious diseases and Microbiology Consultant working at the Royal Free and UCLH NHS trusts. After completing a Zoology degree and a Masters in Taxonomy, Biodiversity and Evolution at Imperial college and the Natural history museum in London, his specialist interest and expertise involves identification and treatment of organisms associated with causing human disease and treatment of bites, stings and animal related injury.
