Meet the Speakers

Dr Yassir Javaid
MA (Cantab) FRCP FRCGP PGDip Cardiology GPwSI Cardiology

Dr Javaid qualified from Cambridge University and completed his VTS training in Northampton. He has a specialist interest in cardiology and echocardiography and was a clinical lead in the Northamptonshire Community Cardiology service, which had a focus on patients with heart failure and valve disease. He was also the primary care Cardiovascular lead for the East Midlands Clinical Network from 2013-2020. He was named Pulse “GP of the Year” in 2015 for his work in reducing stroke emergency admissions in the East Midlands. He is on the editorial board for the British Journal of Cardiology and a trustee of Heart Valve Voice.

Senior Consultant Nurse in Cardiology, Lincolnshire Heart Centre, Lincoln

Alun is a Senior Consultant Nurse in Cardiology at the Lincolnshire Heart Centre and a Visiting Professor of Advanced Clinical Practice at the University of Lincoln.  His clinical interests are in acute coronary syndromes, preventative cardiology, technology evaluation and multi-professional working.

He is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology and was a member of the Guideline Development Group for the NICE guidelines in Unstable Angina and nSTEMI (CG94) and Acute Coronary Syndromes (NG185). He has undertaken x40 NICE Health Technology Assessments on health technologies ranging from anti-platelet therapies to novel anti-TNF and thrombolysis in stroke while publishing widely within topics related to cardiology.

He is Trust Professional Lead for the Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs) and manages a team of consultant nurses and multi-professional ACPs within cardiology. The Cardiology ACP Team deliver over 20,000 patient contacts a year in a variety of emergent and elective cardiovascular presentations that include heart failure, acute coronary syndromes and secondary prevention.
