Dr Steve Holmes Steve has worked as a GP principal since 1989, initially on the Yorkshire/Lancashire border and since 2002, at The Park Medical Practice in Shepton Mallet, Somerset.
He has a long-standing association with the Primary Care Respiratory Society, the British Thoracic Society and the Royal College of General Practitioners, as well as the International Primary Care Respiratory Society and Asthma and Lung UK.
Steve has been involved in medical education in a variety of guises, often at a national or regional level since 1991. He has been involved in a wide range of respiratory educational initiatives for generalists and specialists, both medical and nursing and has been involved in research work with more than eight universities.
He has taught nationally on quality improvement methods, leadership skills and communication skills training, for more than 20 years as well as his respiratory work.
He has published more than 300 articles, is a reviewer for more than 10 active peer reviewed journals and has had the opportunity to work at a global level.
Throughout this, he remains a clinician; passionate about the values of good primary care, continually developing the quality of clinical care, and providing holistic care for patients and their families from cradle to grave.
He is married with two adult inspirational daughters and a wife who inspired them. He manages to get time to enjoy family holidays, walking and running (up to half marathon distance), watching rugby when the opportunity allows and playing the guitar or piano badly!
Dr Estelle McFadden Dr McFadden graduated from Dundee in 1996, before moving to Leeds, to take up a medical rotation at Leeds General Infirmary and attained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP).
She gained experience in Neurology and Rehabilitation Medicine in Leeds and at the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham and also undertook a period of research at the University of Leeds resulting in the degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD), before deciding on a career in General Practice.
Dr McFadden is a partner at the Ridge Medical Practice in Bradford and as a member of the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of General Practitioners has combined these skills to become a GPwER (GP with extended role) in Neurology and Epilepsy.
Paul Dromgoole Paul has over 20 years’ experience in diabetes management in Primary Care and Secondary Care Settings in Brighton, Leicester and York, where he previously worked as a half-time Lecturer Practitioner in Diabetes at the University of York and an External Examiner for the University of Ulster.
He has extensive experience of supporting General Practice in clinical decision making and best practice in diabetes management and his teaching sessions and workshops are consistently highly evaluated for their clinical content, delivery and application to ‘real-life’ clinical practice.
Paul feels as passionate at being involved in diabetes as 20 years ago, with some excellent therapies, with strong evidence of protecting patients into the future: Importantly, if we can get them ‘on board’.
Paul now combines a 2 day a week role as Clinical Nurse Specialist in Diabetes, with freelance Lecturing work throughout the UK.
Outside of work he is a keen Scuba Diver and PADI Dive Instructor and now proud owner of a classic 1947 BSA Motorcycle (any help with kick-starting would be welcome!)
Dr David Capehorn Dr David Capehorn has been a qualified doctor for nearly 37 years. He trained at the University of Bristol and has always been based around Bristol and Gloucestershire. He has a broad range of experience, but his specialist expertise lies in paediatrics.
Dr Capehorn has worked in various roles at Bristol Children’s Hospital for over 30 years, having undertaken training in paediatric emergency medicine and having written a textbook on the subject. He continues to work as an Honorary Associate Specialist in paediatric emergency medicine in the Emergency Department at Bristol Children’s Hospital alongside his work as a GP.
Married and a proud father and step-father, Dr Capehorn balances his busy professional life with time for his family. He enjoys sports such as tennis, playing to a reasonable level, and has a particular love of rare and obscure Delta Blues and Chicago Blues music – much to the amusement of his family!
This meeting is supported by companies shown below, whom will have exhibition stand space at the meeting.
