Paul Dromgoole Paul has over 20 years’ experience in diabetes management in Primary Care and Secondary Care Settings in Brighton, Leicester and York, where he previously worked as a half-time Lecturer Practitioner in Diabetes at the University of York and an External Examiner for the University of Ulster.
He has extensive experience of supporting General Practice in clinical decision making and best practice in diabetes management and his teaching sessions and workshops are consistently highly evaluated for their clinical content, delivery and application to ‘real-life’ clinical practice.
Paul feels as passionate at being involved in diabetes as 20 years ago, with some excellent therapies, with strong evidence of protecting patients into the future: Importantly, if we can get them ‘on board’.
Paul now combines a 2 day a week role as Clinical Nurse Specialist in Diabetes, with freelance Lecturing work throughout the UK.
Outside of work he is a keen Scuba Diver and PADI Dive Instructor and now proud owner of a classic 1947 BSA Motorcycle (any help with kick-starting would be welcome!)
Dr Sarah Davies Sarah is a GP Partner in Cardiff with a special interest in diabetes. She has been a partner for 12 years in her practice which is in a highly deprived area of South Wales. She is the All Wales lead for diabetes in primary care and Clinical Director for Diabetes in primary care for Cardiff and Vale UHB. She is a Diabetes UK Clinical Champion, Primary Care Diabetes and Obesity Society committee member and a regular speaker on Diabetes.
Sarah is passionate about great diabetes care in the primary care setting and upskilling her colleague to feel confident and enthusiastic in this area.
Symposium Speaker Dr Patrick Holmes has worked until recently as a GP Partner in Darlington for over 26 years. He has contributed to regional healthcare planning, including over 20 years as a clinical commissioner with a focus on diabetes care.
He is member of the MHRA expert advisory committee for Cardiology, Diabetes & Kidney Group ,and is an Associate Editor for Diabetic Medicine. He has previously held roles as a GP with Special Interest (GPwER) in Diabetes for County Durham and Darlington Foundation Trust.
Alongside his clinical and research commitments, Dr Holmes co-founded Goggledocs Ltd, a medical education initiative using social media to support professional learning, and CVRMUK an organisation dedicated to improving managing Cardio-Renal-Metabolic conditions most effectively. He has also contributed to national guidance, including the UK Kidney Association’s recommendations on the use of SGLT-2 inhibitors in adults with kidney disease.
His main clinical interests include type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and chronic kidney disease.
