Meet the Speakers
Dr Melanie Nana

Melanie Nana is an NIHR Research Training Fellow currently studying the mechanisms underpinning the neurocognitive and metabolic consequences of children born to women with severe Hyperemesis Gravidarum at King’s College London, supervised by Professor Catherine Williamson.

In 2020 she undertook the obstetric medicine fellowship at St Thomas’ Hospital where she was taught obstetric medicine by Professor Catherine Nelson-Piercy. During that time she completed the RCP credential in obstetric medicine.

Melanie has several publications relating to obstetric medicine including the largest study exploring the lived-experience of women with hyperemesis gravidarum, a BMJ ‘State of the Art Review’ on COVID-19 in pregnancy and work relating to antiplatelet use in pregnancy. She has published chapters on COVID-19 in pregnancy in the Oxford Textbook of Medicine and pituitary and adrenal disease in pregnancy in EndoText. She is a co-author of the European Guideline for Liver Disease, the RCOG ‘The management of nausea and vomiting of pregnancy and hyperemesis gravidarum’ guidelines and developed the management flow charts for the RCOG ‘COVID-19 in pregnancy.

She has a passion for medical education and completed the RCP Doctors as Educators accreditation in 2014 and enjoys lecturing on the topic of medical problems in pregnancy across Europe and internationally.

Carmel has been Nursing for over thirty years in both the UK and Republic of Ireland.  The majority of her career has been spent within Primary Care and she has a special interest in women’s health.   She is the Contraception & Sexual Health Lead Nurse with the University of Nottingham Health Service; the largest single site GP Practice in the UK, with a Practice population of approximately 50,000 patients.

Carmel is a Diplomate member of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare (FSRH) with Letters of Competence in intrauterine contraception and subdermal implant fitting. She is a Faculty Registered Trainer and a non-medical prescriber.

She spent three years as a member of the FSRH events committee, planning and chairing sessions at the Faculty’s annual conferences, and is currently a member of the Primary Care Women’s Health Forum’s education committee.  She has spoken at information events for organisations including Bayer, the University of Limerick, University of Nottingham Students’ Union, the Student Health Association, Ecorys UK and Nottingham Women’s Centre.

Carmel is passionate about improving access to sexual and reproductive health education and has recently founded her company, Macey SRH Ltd, as a platform to provide training and clinical guidance.

When not working, Carmel enjoys being taken for a walk by her pet Lurcher around Nottingham’s many beautiful parks and woodlands.

None of our webinars are recorded, due to the presentations being copyright and therefore the intellectual property of our speakers.

Do I Get A Refund If I Cancel?

All paid course fees are NON-REFUNDABLE and NON-TRANSFERABLE. Our fees are so nominal, they cover administration costs of the event, which have already been incurred (e.g., Admin time/Website Costs/Card Payment Processing Fees). Please let us know if you are unable to attend, as it will allow your place to be allocated to another delegate. If you fail to attend a paid course, you will still have access to the course downloads. If you fail to attend a free course, you will not have access to any post course materials. To notify us that you cannot attend the course, please send an email to webinar@mediconf.co.uk

How Do I Access My Certificate And Course Materials?

After attending one of our courses, certificates of attendance and any course materials are available for 6 months for sole sponsored events and 12 months for all other events ONLY. After the course date, please log onto the Members Area of our website, to obtain your documents. If you require a duplicate copy of your certificate, an admin fee of £15.00 will be charged. This payment can be made over the telephone using all major cards.
