Safeguarding Adults and Children: Back to Basics

The Intercollegiate Documents (ICDs) state that GPs and Practice Nurses are to be regarded as “Level 3”. Did you know that Level 3 incorporates the learning required for levels 1 and 2? Are you new to safeguarding? Do you know your PiPoT from your LADO or do you find all the acronyms used in safeguarding frustrating? Do you find level 3 courses pitched at too high a level and assuming too much pre-knowledge? Often, the lower-level information gets missed out. Would you rather start at level 1 and build up? If yes, then this is the course for you. I will cover level 1 and level 2 requirements from the Intercollegiate Documents for safeguarding adults and children. I will also cover what the intercollegiate documents are in case you haven’t heard of them and why they are important. I promise to make the training much more interesting and interactive than doing it online and I always try to make my training practical and relevant to Primary Care. And- this still counts towards your level 3 safeguarding training requirements. So it’s an all-round win-win!

I will cover all the Level 1 and 2 Learning outcomes from the ICDs, so for both Adult and children:

 1. The different types of abuse and how to recognise them

2. The relevant legislation

3. Know what action to take, who to report your concerns to and who to get advice from

4. Which children are more vulnerable to abuse and exploitation and why

5. Understand the impact of parental physical and mental health on the well-being of their children 6. Understand local safeguarding structures and arrangements

7. Documentation

8. PiPoTs, LADOs and the meaning of other acronyms

9. What to do if an adult doesn’t have mental capacity

10. Radicalisation

11. The significance of children and vulnerable adults not being brought to appointments
